CIA&D doubles wire and cable marking services capacity

Sept. 18, 2018
The company has doubled its wire marking capabilities with the addition of two laser marking systems.

Marking services provider Co-Operative Industries Aerospace & Defense (CIA&D; Fort Worth, TX) has doubled its wire marking capabilities with the addition of two laser marking systems—one from Laselec (Toulouse, France) and the other from Spectrum Technologies (Bridgend, Wales). The two systems allow CIA&D to offer increased line and marking speeds, multiple spool feeding, integrated desktop operating systems, and automated production modes to improve efficiencies.

With its laser identification technology, CIA&D can permanently mark a broad range of wire and cable jacket types and constructions to meet customer-specific requirements. This identification method has uses with high-performance fluoropolymer-finished electrical wires and fiber optics used by the aerospace industry. The system will effectively mark on PTFE (Teflon), FEP, ETFE, or similar jackets. These fluoropolymer materials can generally be marked in all forms, including extruded polymers, thin tapes, or dispersion topcoats.

This UV wire marking and processing meets major aircraft manufacturers and harness manufacturer standards and qualifications. Tests include legibility, contrast, cross-section, fluid immersion, light immersion, thermal, surface resistance, and dieelectric withstand.
